Almost everywhere convergence of series and
descriptive set theory
Resumen:
Given a basis (fn) of Lp(), whether one has almost everywhere convergence of
the series expansions f =P1
n=1 anfn is a fundamental question. To establish almost
everywhere convergence, the standard approach is to prove uniform bounds for the
associated maximal function. We will discuss the necessity of this approach, using
methods of descriptive set theory. This is based on joint work with A. Avil ´ es, C. Rosendal
and P. Tradacete.
