Title: Fundamental groups of plane curve complements

Abstract: The fundamental group of the complement of a plane curve C in the complex projective plane is a powerful invariant which is sensitive to the type and position of singularities of C. In this talk, we'll give an overview of fundamental groups of plane curve complements, including the Zariski-van Kampen method for finding presentations of these groups. We'll also discuss recent progress on the topic (joint with José Ignacio Cogolludo Agustín) regarding curve complements whose fundamental group is a free product of cyclic groups.
