Title: An overview of the general components of the jet schemes

Abstract: In this talk, we will explain how the topological structure of the jet schemes of an algebraic variety encodes relevant information about the singularities of the variety and the scheme structure of its arc scheme. In this sense, we will present a strong connection between nilpotent functions of the arc scheme and a family of irreducible components of the jet schemes, called the general components, and how we can take advantage of this connection to effectively compute the aforementioned nilpotent functions.
